Manchester United agree deal with Arsenal for Robin Van Persie

The two clubs held talks on Tuesday night, and the red side of Manchester announced on wednesday evening that they have agreed a deal for Arsenals Superstriker.

Manchester United have made an improved bid for Robin Van Persie after making a breakthrough in talks with Arsenal on Tuesday night. Arsenal have accepted the bid which a deal has now been agreed subject to a medical. Arsene Wenger’s Friendship with Alex Ferguson has played a major part in the deal.

The transfer fee is likely to be close to Arsenal’s asking price in the region of about 22m, once add-ons are included.

United could the Dutch striker before their Premier League opener against Everton next Monday.

Arsene Wenger ready for title challenge

Arsene Wenger says Arsenal are ready to challenge for honours and are stronger now than they were last summer.

Although speculation continues to swirl around the future of captain and leading goalscorer   Robin van Persie, with Manchester United reported to be stepping up attempts to sign him –  Wenger has hailed the strength of his squad.

Also there is Speculation Alex Song could depart the club to join Barcelona however – the  French boss insisted that no contact had been made between the two clubs and hit out at reports  in the Spanish media.

“There’s nothing going on with Song,” Wenger is quoted as saying by The Sun. “There’s nothing in that.

“Song has three years on his contract, he’s not in the same situation as Robin van Persie.

“In Spain the newspapers are not really serious. We’ve had the experience of that. We’ve never had any contact with anybody from Barcelona”.

The Frenchman saw Arsenal brush Cologne aside in a 4-0 friendly win on Sunday and said summer signings Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla, coupled with the expected return to fitness of midfielder Jack Wilshere after a long injury lay-off, would lift the Gunners in the hunt for trophys.

Manchester United in action against Barcelona

Barcelona defeated fellow European heavyweights Manchester United on penalties after a 0-0 draw in a pre-season friendly in Sweden.

Ashley Young and Nani, who did not convert for England at Euro 2012, both failed in the shoot-out, which was limited to just three penalties for each team, meaning Xavi and former United player Gerard Pique gave Barcelona the win.

Wayne Rooney had seen a penalty saved by Victor Valdes in the first half but Tito Vilanova’s Barca, who gave summer signing Jordi Alba a second-half debut, had dominated.

Sir Alex Ferguson will be reasonably pleased with the workout, although after watching his side fire a blank in Norway on Saturday, maybe the deal for Robin van Persie cannot come soon enough.

With Lucas Moura’s move to PSG being confirmed and speculation intensifying that Van Persie was about to agree a deal with the Old Trafford outfit, it was a very busy day at United.

Compared to that, the opening stages were drab, certainly for a Red Devils outfit who were outplayed for long periods by a Barca team who have beaten them in two of the past four UEFA Champions League finals.

As ever, Lionel Messi was behind so many of the Catalans’ best moves.

The brilliant Argentina star only just failed to get on the end of Andres Iniesta’s delicate early pass beyond the Red Devils defence and he was marginally offside when David de Gea blocked a close-range effort.

Manchester United have only scored 3 goals so far in pre-season they will hope to land Robin Van Persie as soon as possible!
