Platt believes Tevez is back to his best after tough pre-season
Manchester City assistant manager David Platt has insisted that Carlos Tevez is back to his old self after putting in some gruelling hours on the training pitch in pre-season. It was clear Tevez was carrying a few pounds after playing golf for 6 months.
Platt revealed that the 28-year-old, who scored a brilliant goal in the Community Shield victory over Chelsea on Sunday, has been determined to regain his fitness and top form this season, while he remained silent over the future of Tevez but he did indicate that the striker and club still have a good working relationship.
“Carlos has worked ever so hard in pre-season,” Platt told reporters.
“Since he has come back in he has really attacked his work and not had one day off. His goal was one of those you can remember him doing two years ago.
“He ducks inside, he goes away from people. That’s what he’s been missing and it was there again.
“A lot was said and done last year. Everybody has got to hold their hands up and say mistakes were made.
“But what do you do? Carlos has still got two years left on his contract. He is a very good player and he is playing for Manchester City.
Tevez will look to start the new campaign with a win next sunday.
